Arsenal have secured the future of Mikel Arteta by signing the Spaniard down to a one-year deal but not everyone is happy with the decision.
Whilst the majority accept that giving Arteta, the club captain, a new deal, fans are not happy with the news that this deal could signal the end of Arsenal’s quest to sign a defensive midfielder.
Whilst the club received a massive boost with Francis Coquelin’s emergence in the second-half of the campaign, Arsenal need strength in depth- and Arteta is not seen as that man by many, after spending the majority of last season on the sidelines.
Now 33, the ageing midfielder will not been seen as the figure Arsenal need in the middle of the park to propel them to their first Premier League title in a decade.
Could the decision not to sign a midfielder haunt Arsenal during the next year?
What a wonderful day wenger says no signings needed and Arteta signs a new deal

Arteta's legs were already long gone last time we saw him play. Can't wait to see his turn of pace after half a year out.

Arteta experienced & professional, good for dressing room & around club but turns 34 next season & legs already going. Still need to buy CM.

We are out of debt, and Wenger feels it's right to give Arteta a new contract, instead of buying world class talent. #bamboozled

A fully fit Arteta is someone who can convince me of not signing a defensive midfielder. Not Jack, nor Ramsey & neither Bielik.

Mikel Arteta's deal being renewed for a year isn't a bad thing. He's an experienced and calming figure in the camp, and will rarely start.

Would rather have kept Flamini than Arteta #afc

No issue with another yr for Arteta. Decent cover and hopefully he can teach Coq the finer points of the position.

If Arteta one years contract mean it is his last season at Arsenal than I am happy with that

Re Arteta – my personal opinion is one of the biggest losses in early Ems yrs was having to let go of 'wise old heads' too early (to save £)

I think we need players like Arteta around the dressing room but we still need a new midfielder to compete with Coquelin
