18-year-old Ademola Lookman has impressed for a sinking ship, Charlton Athletic this season, scoring 5 goals and recently becoming a regular starter in the XI. Charlton have been relegated to League One and that means clubs like Arsenal may have a better chance to sign him.

The rumoured fee for Lookman is £2.5million, a small price to pay if he is to realise his potential. That valuation is not too risky for a club like Arsenal to cough up, small change really and a move should be a formality if the Gunners decide to follow up their extensive scouting of the player with an official bid.

Lookman can play on the wing or as a striker and will add to the Gunners first team attacking options. There is the possibility that he would immediately be sent back out on loan, probably to a Championship club or maybe even back to Charlton to help them try and regain promotion.

Lookman is a player who possesses particularly strong dribbling attributes, making him an effective option on the wing. An area he needs to continue working on though is his final ball, which at this stage lacks consistency (just 1 assist this season). He is an instinctive finisher though, aided by his ability to strike the ball with either foot, adding unpredictability to his game.

If this stage, under Arsene Wenger’s system, if he were to play for Arsenal it would almost certainly be as a winger. His height (just under 5ft 7) restricts his ability to hold the ball up, an essential ingredient for a lone striker for the Gunners.

Although he might immediately draw comparisons, Lookman is nothing like Alex Iwobi. The Charlton forward is less composed on the ball and more direct. A quicker turn of pace and more instinctive in front of goal, whereas Iwobi has different plus points (strength, build up player).

As much as Arsenal need a world-class striker, they do also need some young blood in that area and Lookman looks like he has the potential to be just that.
