All is not well between Thibaut Courtois and Chelsea. The want-away Belgian goalkeeper appears to have made up his mind about his future.
Courtois has just one year left with the Blues and hasn’t shown any interest in renewing the deal. Real Madrid has been his admirers for some time and is closely monitoring the situation.
The Blues are in dilemma: do they sell this summer or allow him to leave next year for free? Popular Journalist Duncan Castles thinks the former champions should decide.
He was quoted by Daily Star:
“Chelsea have the decision, ‘do we hold onto this player who we value at €100m (£88.5m), and lose him for nothing in a year’s time and see how he plays through a season of disgruntlement? Or do we cash in best we can now?’
“The problem is Courtois only wants to go to certain clubs.
“There’s been interest from Paris St-Germain but Buffon is headed there so that exit door is closed.
“Real Madrid is persistently in contact with him but no actual firm offers.
“So he’s not convinced that Madrid will turn into a serious deal. Or Atletico Madrid, the former club where he spent three years on loan from Chelsea.”
Courtois is still at the World Cup with Belgium who will face France in the semi-finals. The Blues would have to wait until the completion of the competition before any decision can be made.
