Manchester City will go head to head with Chelsea for the signing for John Stones this summer. It was recently reported Manchester City have jumped to the front of the queue of clubs in for Stones.

Pep Guardiola wants to sign some of the best English young talent when he takes over at City, according to the Daily Mirror Stones is top of that list and there is serious interest from the Manchester club.

City are increasingly confident they will be able to land Stones, who is rated at £40million if Everton decide to sell this summer.

Everton stood their ground last summer and refused to sell one of their prized assets despite Chelsea making a record £37million bid for the young defender.

Stones has really made a breakthrough in the last few seasons and his explicit form hasn’t gone unnoticed, he has recently been called up for the England squad to play at the Euros and has constantly been linked with the best clubs in the world. Stones, who may have had his heart set on a move last season hasn’t had his greatest season this year, but there is still enough glimpses of potential to excite interested clubs.

City will be desperate for defensive reinforcements this summer after a somewhat disappointing season. The fitness of Captain Vincent Kompany has left City very vulnerable at the back. Stones is ball playing CB and loves to play from the back which will please Guardiola. He drives through the middle of the park like a midfielder and often likes to play through the lines. Stones is still a tender age of 21-years old and still has so much to learn, although his defensive abilities are very strong he still makes mistakes, he often gets caught on the ball as he doesn’t want to kick it up field, he is desperate to keep the ball on the floor and that is something Guardiola will cherish, Stones is often able to make up ground quick standing over 6ft 2 and is also very athletic. His abilities didn’t go unnoticed with the England manager in recent seasons and he has earned himself 8 international caps and a Euro 2016 call-up.

As well as the two clubs mentioned, it is thought John Stones is also attracting interest from Manchester United and overseas at one of the biggest clubs in Europe Barcelona.
