Chelsea is reportedly plotting to snatch Jorginho from under Manchester City’s noses.
Brazilian-born Italian, Jorginho, seemed to be heading to Etihad after strong interests from Pep Guardiola.
The 26-year-old’s exceptional ball-playing abilities are ideally suited to the Spaniard’s approach.
However, it now appears that the Blues could beat their rivals to the midfielder. Jorginho has been the livewire of Napoli’s revolutionary era under Maurizio Sarri.
Blessed with superb ball control, precision and foresight, he dictates play from a deep midfield role. Although he rarely contributes in attack with eight in Serie A last season, the 26-year-old is a beast at holding onto possession.
No player in Italy’s top-flight garnered more touches and passes than the ex-Verona man. Joao Santos, the midfielder’s agent had claimed that his client could head to City in May.
“Jorginho is still under contract, but if Napoli finds an agreement with City then he goes to Manchester,” he told CalcioNapoli24.
“Finding an agreement with the English won’t be a problem, considering their importance, but I repeat it depends on Napoli as the player is tied to the Azzurri for two more years.”
However, City has been playing hardball, stalling to stump up the £45m required to turn Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis to part ways with €50million-rated valuable talent.
And the Blues could just capitalise to land the highly-rated Italy international. According to SportItalia, the Blues are hoping to use potential manager Sarri in the deal. Both spent three successful years in Naples and could be reunited in England.
