Arsenal and Manchester United have made contact with Gonazlo Higuain ahead of a proposed summer transfer, according to Italian journalist Tancredi Palermi.
Napoli have reportedly put a £40million price tag on Higuain, after the club missed out on Champions League football next season.
Louis van Gaal is on the lookout for another top class striker this summer, after passing up the chance to sign Falcao permanently. Robin van Persie has endured a season to forget and could even be offloaded if United make a couple of additions upfront.
Arsenal are also open to adding to their strike force as they look to build a team capable of winning the Premier League next season. I find it unlikely that Wenger would pay the £40million asking price though, especially after refusing to pay the £35million Madrid asked in 2013.
Van Gaal on the other hand, has almost unlimited funds and has shown he is not scared to pay over the odds to secure top talent.
Fans are in disagreement over a potential move for Higuain, with some considering him overrated for the price tag and others desperate for a striker of his quality. Here’s how Twitter is reacting to the latest Higuain rumours:
Cech, Vidal and Lacazette/Benzema/Higuain and I’d be very happy, more than do able too

Gonzalo Higuain and Vidal at Arsenal. Just what I need

If United get Higuain we have no excuses next season if we don’t sign Lacazette, Benzema or Cavani

Just saw that mufc have been linked with Higuain, no offence but we’d rather play Jones upfront than buy Higuain for 25-40M

I have a personal vendetta against Higuaín, part because of the World Cup & the other because he’s largely overrated. No, thank you.
