Liverpool look to have won the race to sign Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne, ahead of Manchester United – after it was reported that Southampton had accepted a £12.5million bid from Rodgers’ men.

Clyne could become Liverpool’s fifth signing of the summer already, after the club confirmed deals for James Milner, Danny Ings and Adam Bogdan, whilst Roberto Firmino is on the verge of joining.

Liverpool fans are delighted with how fast their club are acting this summer in the market, and Clyne’s swift swoop is the latest example of that improved efficiency from Brendan Rodgers and the clubs hierachy, who are desperate for top four status once again.

Considering the inflated prices of English players recently, Clyne at £12.5million seems a good deal. The right-back is still just 24 and will be an improvement on Glen Johnson, who has left Liverpool on a free transfer.

Here’s how Manchester United, Liverpool and Southampton fans are reacting on Twitter.
