Liverpool have reportedly agreed to pay Cristian Benteke’s release clause – and the news has not gone down well with most Liverpool fans.
Brendan Rodgers has appeared to be interested in Benteke for months now, but Aston Villa and Tim Sherwood have stood firm – they will not accept any bids that don’t meet his £32.5million release clause.
On the face of it, that’s a lot of money. The 24 year old hasn’t been on the best of form in the most recent season, but his free scoring form is unforgettable for some.
The Belgian is very young, so that should taken into account for his valuation. He has power in abundance and can be very prolific – as he has proven. But I’m with the Liverpool fans here – have they not learnt? Paying £32.5million for a player who has only really warranted a price tag north of £20million in one season – seems silly.
Here’s how the Liverpool fans are reacting to the latest development on Twitter, most of them aren’t too happy.
@empireofthekop we’ve been ripped off, gave in

Anything more than £20-25mill for Benteke is a rip off,

Also, please don't sign Benteke. It wouldn't work. #LFC

We dont control the funds at LFC. If the clubs happy to spend on Benteke then so be it. Back the player. Regardless of price, he'll score!

Please stick to your guns @AVFCOfficial don't let Liverpool bully you into dropping Benteke buy out clause, thanks

We should go for Auba! Same price range as Benteke and far better and would excel given the players we have. #LFC pic.twitter.com/lsw3ExPwVX

Benteke is an excellent player. Just not 32mil worth of excellence.
