Whilst Ronald Koeman’s greatest focus over this summer will be the retaining his side’s top performers, he will also be eager to dip into the transfer market and find yet more of Europe’s hidden gems. Southampton have proved to be masters of the transfer market over recent years, acquiring the services of Victor Wanyama, Dejan Lovren, Sadio Mane, Fraser Forster and Toby Alderweireld, just to name a few. So, who could be the next big talent to wear the red and white stripes?
1 – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
The first target, a man who wore those famous stripes in his younger years – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The return of the Ox to St. Mary’s has been considered a dream move for fans over the past two seasons, but now, with Oxlade-Chamberlain struggling for first team football, that dream could soon become reality. Since the beginning of the season, Oxlade-Chamberlain has started just 17 games of the 33 that he has featured in. According to The Telegraph and The Mirror, Arsenal are willing to listen to offers for the twenty-two-year-old, with Southampton showing great interest. If Sadio Mane were to leave this summer, then Oxlade-Chamberlain would prove to be an incredible replacement. But, if the Senegalese star were to stay, then Southampton would boast one of the most exciting frontlines in the Premier League. Despite only scoring two goals this season, it’s clear for all to see that the Ox holds talent in abundance and that It may well be time for him to move on from the Gunners. Southampton can not allow a player of such quality to fall through their fingers.
