Despite Euro 2016 on show, the gossip continues to flow and as usual you can find all of the important stuff at Fresh Football.
Arsenal to offer Edinson Cavani £120,000 per-week wages (Daily Express)
The Daily Express are claiming an exclusive that Arsenal have offered Edinson Cavani a £120,000 per week contract as they prepare for disappointment from Jamie Vardy. Vardy continues to stall on a move to Arsenal and the Gunners will now turn their attentions to Cavani, who is looking to join the Premier League. After three successful years in Paris, scoring 53 goals in 97 games, Cavani looks ready to test himself in England. Like Vardy, Cavani turns 30 next season and would give Arsenal that ready made goalscorer who can compete, or play alongside Olivier Giroud next season. Cavani can also play on the wing and because of the presence of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he has spent a lot of his time in Paris playing on the wing. That makes him a more attractive option to Arsenal considering Danny Welbeck, the clubs versatile attacker, has suffered another long-term injury. In terms of reliability of the rumour, the Express don’t tend to claim many exclusives but they have with this one so it might be best to wait a see. Despite playing on the left for most of the season, Cavani managed 19 league goals and 5 assists from 24 starts and 8 sub appearances in the league.
Manchester United trigger N’Golo Kante’s £22million release clause (Mirror)
Manchester United are preparing to meet Kante’s release clause of £22million according to The Mirror. Once his clause is met United will be allowed to hold contract talks with the player and it is thought that Jose Mourinho is very keen to add him to his squad, seeing him as a good alternative to Nemanja Matic. Kante may not choose to join United though, with the club not playing in the Champions League next season and teams like Arsenal and Paris-Saint Germain also interested. It is the French club who remain favourites to lure Kante from Leicester and his performance alongside Blaise Matuidi in the France midfield will only encourage PSG more. Kante appears to have put his future on hold for the duration of Euro 2016 and will then make a decision on his future upon completion of the tournament. Manchester United may have to clear Bastian Schweinsteiger from their books before there is room for a new midfield signing, following the news of a contract extension from Michael Carrick last week. 25-year-old Kante now has a big decision to make, but these reliable reports show that Manchester United are a real option.
Ronald Koeman plots move for Leicester’s Kaspar Schmeichel (Mirror)
With Ronald Koeman set to take charge of Everton, one of his transfer priorities will be to sign a new goalkeeper. The club lack a top class number 1 and few come more ready-made than Premier League winner Kaspar Schmeichel. The Danish stopper was thought to be content at the club but the arrival of Ron-Robert Zieler and speculation around Jamie Vardy and N’Golo Kante may worry him. Zieler is a 27-year-old goalkeeper that Leicester have signed already this summer. It is thought that Zieler is good enough to start and will not want to sit on the bench, leaving Schmeichel’s position in doubt. Claudio Ranieri would like to have two top class goalkeepers at the club in Zieler and Schmeichel, but it is unlikely that he’ll be able to keep the duo happy. Koeman could pounce for 29-year-old Schmeichel and offer him a starting spot in an Everton side that is set to be revamped next season. Of all the players that could leave Leicester this summer, you think they’d be confident of keeping hold of Schmeichel, but the arrival of Zieler puts that in doubt and it is possible that Ranieri may be more willing to sanction a sale considering he has already signed a possible replacement.
