Manchester City strolled to a 3-0 win over Southampton at St. Mary’s as they moved within six points of league leaders Chelsea. The game wasn’t quite as straight forward as the scoreline suggests, as Sergio Aguero picked up a booking for diving and Eliaguim Mangala was sent off for two bookable offences. Although there was nothing controversial about Mangala’s red card, Aguero will feel very hard done by, as his so-called ‘dive’ appeared to be a clear penalty.
The biggest surprise of the game, however, was in the goalscorers. Aguero failed to get on the score sheet, but both Yaya Toure and Frank Lampard scored the first two goals. The third came from an unlikely source when Aguero played the ball across to Gael Clichy, who smashed it in to the top corner of the goal from close range, claiming his first goal for the Sky Blues.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Clichy’s goal:
Clichy scored. I cant believe it.
