Iran becomes the first Country to Lands in Russia

World Cup contenders, Iran becomes the first country to land their first team in Russia arriving at the Vnukovo International Airport ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup campaign which will start this June.

For the rest of the Tournament, Iran will be using up the Lokomotiv Bakovka Training Centre in the region of Moscow, in bids to get prepared for their first match of the tournament on June 15 against Morocco at Saint Petersburg Stadium.

Head coach, Carlos Queiroz expressed his feelings, saying: “Being in Russia is a dream come true for Iranian football. We have achieved this dream through lots of hard work and sacrifices, which only heightens how honored and privileged we feel to be here.

“The Iranian national team will relish rubbing shoulders with the best teams in the world and being part of this fantastic World Cup family.

“We arrive raring to keep this dream going for as long as possible and we look forward to playing our part in making this the best World Cup ever.

“We would like to send our greetings to all the other teams and their fans, particularly the people of Russia, who will be hosting the competition. We wish you all a great World Cup,”

The Lions of Persia achieved a record feat of being the first Asian country to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, which will make it the fifth time Iran qualifies for the finals. Iran will be competing in the Group B stages in the 2018 FIFA World Cup and will be looking to fight off competitions from strong round of 16 favorites, Spain and Portugal with a match against Morocco set to be their first opening match of the biggest football tournament.
