Jose Mourinho is going to be the next manager of Manchester United. A bit weird really, but it’s happening. He will immediately look to change a squad that has struggled since Sir Alex Ferguson left. If he can emulate the success of ‘Fergie’ it would be extremely pleasing for the fans. To do that, he needs to make some signings, here are three players that the Portuguese manager is already, reportedly, lining up.
1 – Karim Benzema
Could the pull of Mourinho be enough to distract Benzema from the fact that Manchester United will not be playing in the Champions League next season? Benzema is currently in negotiations to extend his Madrid contract but nevertheless, Mourinho views him as an attainable target. It is likely that Madrid will be desperate to keep hold of Benzema after his impressive return of 24 La Liga goals from 27 games this season. United have of course lacked goals this season, scoring the same amount as most midtable side, and Mourinho knows he needs to add goals if United are to compete for the title next season, something that will be his aim in his debut season at the club. Whilst young Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have offered glimpses of quality in attack, United would no doubt benefit from a proven goalscorer in attack and Benzema is just that.
With Madrid desperate to keep hold of him and Manchester United lacking Champions League football next season, it is really hard to see Mourinho pulling this one off, even with the bottomless pit of money that United have.
