Last seasons top two will meet on Saturday evening in a must win game for both clubs, especially the Gunners. Both teams started their campaigns with a loss last weekend and a recovery is needed. Leicester City only lost three games last season and two of them were against Arsenal, so the Gunners will come into this one with some confidence, whilst Ranieri’s Leicester will of course, remain fearless. Here are three key battles that will decide the outcome of the match.
1 – Jamie Vardy vs. Laurent Koscielny
Koscielny is set to be rushed back into first-team football to cope with Vardy’s presence. Arsenal very publicly tried to sign Vardy this summer and he will be determined to go and crush the Gunners title hopes in the second week. Even if Koscielny does return, Arsenal’s defence will not be at full strength and there will still be a vulnerability that Koscielny needs to work hard to solve. I’m sure the Gunners are working hard to practice their defensive shape ahead of this fixture, but if they perform anything like they did against Liverpool, Leicester could really embarrass the Gunners on Saturday. But if Koscielny does return on Saturday then Arsenal have no real excuse, they could possibly line up with 4 of their first choice back 5 in Cech, Bellerin, Koscielny and Monreal – there’s plenty of ability and experience there to handle the threat Vardy and Leicester can offer, but will they? I’m sure the outcome of this individual battle will have a huge outcome on deciding the outcome of this one.
