Here are Fresh Football’s ratings for Spurs Champions League game at the BayArena against Roger Schmidt’s Leverkusen.
Bernd Leno – 6.5
Sublime save to deny Lamela in 38 min after Son hit the bar. Very quiet second half.
Lars Bender – 7
Attacked the right hand side very well, defensively solid too. Booked for bringing down Rose to stop a Spurs attack. Superb run in the 48 min to set up Hernandez who should have scored. Subbed after 74 minutes after a very impressive display, completed 17 passes during the time and was great all round.
Jonathan Tah – 6.5
Couple shaky passes early on but was solid throughout the first half and again in the second half, very solid performance.
Omer Toprak – 8
Sublime block on Alli shot in the 37 min which was destined to hit the back of the net. Had a header on target from a corner in the 67 minute and probably should have gave Lloris more work to do. Had another golden chance from a corner in the 71 minute but saw his shot go wide. Defensively perfect in an all round tremendous display.
Benjamin Henrichs – 7
Very assured in possession and was very solid whilst always being available to receive the ball. Excellent link up play going forward.
Admir Mehmedi – 6.5
Very quiet first half, struggled to make an impact on the game. Pulled out a good save from Lloris in the 61 min and grew into the game massively as the game went on.
Charles Aranguiz – 7
Much like Mehmedi, struggled to get into the game but did see the ball a lot more, but not enough to influence the game. Had his free-kick saved in the 56 min. Brilliant link up play and triangles once in posession and was dangerous in the second half.
Kevin Kampl – 7
First time he was able to get forward he had a poor effort go wide in the 41 minute that went wide, which he really should have done better with. Started to orchestrate the Leverkusen side in the second half and dictated play. Put in a great ball for Kiessling with the latter unable to convert.
Hakan Calhanoglu – 5
Yellow card in the 21st minute for a very late tackle on Wanyama, looked to create something on the left hand side. when he did have the ball but was shadowed out throughout. Subbed after 45 minutes.
Stefan Kiessling – 6.5
Again, very quiet first half from the Leverkusen man. Great bit of skill to have a shot in the 57 min but was blocked by Rose. Denied in the 67 minute by a smart save from Lloris. Should score in the 84 minute, poor miss. Grew as the game went on like others in the German side.
Javier Hernandez – 7.5
Very quiet up until his shot in the 43 min but did not test Lloris. Should have scored in the 48 min but was denied by a very good save. Another golden opportunity in the 57 min to have his shot blocked by Rose. Ran himself into the ground in the second half and deserved a goal.
Hugo Lloris – 9 (MOTM)
Nervy distribution early on after giving the ball away in a dangerous area. Exceptional save to keep out Hernandez. Made another great save to deny Mehmedi and pulled off a few more before the final whistle, helped his side massively to leave Germany with one point. Man of the Match.
Kieran Trippier – 5
Put in a beautiful cross for Alli but the latter was unable to convert and remained an outlet on the right hand side for Spurs attack but was rather poor defensively in the second half and was sloppy with the ball.
Eric Dier – 6.5
Slotting back into centre-back with Alderweireld injured and looked very comfortable, kept Leverkusen at bay and had a very quiet first half, cannot say the same for the second as the Leverkusen side broke through but Dier stood his ground and helped his side grind out for a point.
Jan Vertonghen – 6.5
Much like Dier had an easy ride in the first half, although did look shaky in possession early on in the game, very tough second half for the central defender but did not play too bad without his Belgian partner.
Danny Rose – 7
First half he was probably more attacking than not, defensively quiet due to Spurs dominance in the latter stages and was always an option when Spurs went forward. Crucial block in the 57 min to deny Hernandez and found himself in a battle for 45 minutes throughout the second half.
Dele Alli – 6
Recycled the ball well early on and retrieved possession in the middle. Missed an golden opportunity in the 26 min to put Spurs in the lead but his header went wide of the right hand post, did nothing in the second half and struggle to get into the game.
Victor Wanyama – 7
Solid in the middle of the park, was very good on the ball and recycled the ball excellently, a very good first half from the midfielder and much the same in the second.
Erick Lamela – 6
Booked for a needless tackle in the 24 min but looked bright early on, had a shot saved in the latter stages of the half which so nearly broke the deadlock. Didn’t make an impact in the second half as Leverkusen dominated. Subbed after 70 minutes.
Christian Eriksen – 4
Very, very quiet first half from the Spurs play-maker. Skipped away from his marker in the 81 minute to put himself into the box but Leno smothered his efforts, apart from that a very disappointing display by the Spurs man.
Son Heung-min – 6
Looked very dangerous cutting inside, he dribbled superbly through the Bayer midfield in the 23 min to have his shot blocked. Very quiet in the second half and was eventually subbed off.
Vincent Janssen – 6.5
Came close to breaking the deadlock after hitting the bar in 38 min, superb piece of play to get away from Tah in the 42 min and put the ball across goal with no other player able to capitalise. Very quiet second half and was subbed in the 64 minute.
Baumgartlinger – 6
Gave Leverkusen the much needed dominance in the middle and was good both defensively and offensively.
Jedvaj – 5
Done his job at the back but did not see the ball much, nor had too much to do.
Brandt – n/a
I was expecting the youngster to start, made a brilliant run in the 85 minute and cause Spurs headaches in his 10 minute cameo.
Dembele – 4.5
Let the Leverkusen midfield come into the game ad struggled to make an impac and control the middle like they did in the first half.
Sissoko – n/a
Onomah – n/a
