2 – Marcos Alonso
According to The Telegraph, Chelsea are set to finalise the £23million signing of Marcos Alonso on Wednesday. Alonso is a left sided defender that has been playing in Serie A for Fiorentina. The Spaniard spent three years at Bolton Wanderers between 2010-2013 before joining Fiorentina for free after his contract expired. He was then loaned back to Sunderland and was moderately successful. The £23million fee will rightly be questioned, but he is a defender that has matured during his time in Italy, making 57 appearances for the club. Alonso is a well-rounded defender, and standing at over 6ft, he is very good in the air for a left back. He won 1.88 aerial duels per 90 minutes last season and also made an impressive 2.03 interceptions from left back. He won a respectable 1.46 tackles and made 0.88 successful take ons per 90 last season. The question Chelsea fans will ask is, can he perform in England has two relatively poor stints in the country. Like with Luiz, Chelsea fans will hope Conte can bring the very best out of Alonso, should he join.
