2 – Nampalys Mendy
Leicester City are closing in on the signing of Nice midfielder Nampalys Mendy after agreeing a fee of around £10 million.
Mendy will fly to England tomorrow to finalise his transfer after several weeks of negotiations between the two clubs.
The France under-21 midfielder will link up with former manager Ranieri, where they spent some time together at Monaco before he left for Nice in 2013. Mendy has since played 110 games for Nice scoring just one goal.
Mendy stands at 5ft 6′ which is a very similar posture to Kante who also stands at 5ft 6′, the two midfielders share many of the same attributes and we look at how the two compared last season. Kanté, who ended up in the Premier League TOTS managed 3.72 tackles per 90 minutes which is perfect from a midfielder, Mendy is second with 1.33. Kante is well known for his interceptions and blocks, his work horse tag was definitely proven last season. Kanté managed 4.64 interceptions and 0.33 blocks which once again puts him ahead of Mendy who managed 2.18 interceptions and 0.16 blocks. Kante finished the season with a far more superior total defence score than Mendy with 20.73 with the latter managing 10.05.
The 23-year-old defensive central midfielder is considered by the Italian to be the ideal replacement for Kante. Kante who has a £20million release clause in his contract is likely to leave Leicester this summer with a move to Chelsea or and Paris Saint-Germain on the cards.
