According to the Daily Mirror Arsenal are keeping tabs on 23-year-old Mauro Icardi in order to bolster the Gunners strike force this summer. Arsene Wenger is eager to add to his squad and a striker of his calibre is high on the wanted list.

Arsenal will look to sign a new striker after the disappointment of Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott this season who have both not been good enough, Danny Welbeck has been ruled out for 10 months with another knee injury and Arsene Wenger confirmed yesterday that Arsenal will look to sign a striker this summer.

Wenger is frustrated with the lack of firepower in front of goal and a number of wasted chances which damaged any chance of winning the title this season, the fans have been crying out for a striker ever since Thierry Henry left and may get their wish this summer.

Icardi has scored 0.56 goals per 90 minutes compared to Giroud’s 0.59 which may be a worry for the Gunners as they are seriously lacking efficiency in front of goal. The Frenchman’s shooting accuracy is also 4% higher (54%) with Icardi just behind (50%). Something that has been a downfall for Arsenal attackers is shooting outside the box, whether or not it is confidence or tactics Giroud once again comes out on top by just 0.01 with 0.22 whilst Icardi is narrowly behind (0.21). Giroud completes a full house after scoring 28.56 in total attack score, Icardi is behind again in this area (22.64). Icardi certainly fits the bill for Arsenal and would fit into their system well. Icardi is fast and tactically intelligent. Playing in England you have to be strong physically and he certainly is no light weight. Icardi has very good technique and an eye for goal. He likes to play off of his team-mates which would benefit players like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez who like to play through the lines.
