Rafa Benitez has reportedly put signing an established goalscorer at the top of his transfer targets for the summer. But that is not all he wants as the Spaniard looks to rebuild a Newcastle squad that will undergo serious renovation this summer. Here are three players the Newcastle manager is interested in signing this summer, according to reports.
1 – Ross McCormack
To win the Championship Benitez may need to add a few tried and tested Championship players. Few come with more evidence than Ross McCormack. McCormack’s goals were one of the main reasons Fulham just about stayed in the Championship last season and he’s been scoring in that division for fun for some time. The Scot has scored 38 goals in 89 games for Fulham since 2014 and previous to that 53 goals in 140 games for Leeds. He is an established goalscorer in the 2nd tier and Benitez will struggle to find someone who can guarantee goals like McCormack. The 29-year-old will definitely not be the long term answer for Newcastle as they look to re-establish themselves in the top half of the Premier League, but he could certainly play a massive part in helping them get to the top division again. McCormack has publicly said he is open to a move to Newcastle United this summer.
