2 – Patrick Bamford
Benitez is searching for an established Championship goalscorer and if he can’t get hold of McCornack, the next in line is Patrick Bamford of Chelsea. The forward has scored 25 times in 48 starts in the Championship. The 22-year-old has had several loan spells but is now looking for a more permanent club and Newcastle could be the perfect destination. They are a club that should return to the Premier League soon and a team where he may start. McCormack has a £15million release clause and Fulham want to receive that in full if they are to sell the striker. For a 29-year-old that’s a little high so Newcastle may be wiser to invest in Bamford, a young striker who could be available for £10million. He is clearly not in Chelsea’s plans and if they receive a fee in double figures I am sure it’ll be enough to convince them to finally part ways with the forward. Although his recent spells with Palace and Norwich have been unssuccesful, Bamford clearly has potential and he could flourish in the Championship under Rafa.
