For Southampton yesterday afternoon it was Stamford Bridge, in the latest of their battles to regain ground in the ‘rat race’ for Champions League football.

An early Diego Costa goal gave the impression the writing may well of been on the wall for the Saints, but before half-time they managed to draw level, albeit from the spot and summer signing from FC Twente, Dusan Tadic – who has been a revelation this season for the club.
The second half was what some may call an ‘onslaught’, and like the wolf in the children’s tale ‘three little pigs’, Chelsea tried to blow Southampton down, but any attempt appeared to be rebuffed by last ditch challenges, and the brick wall that was Fraser Forster.
In the end the game finished 1-1, a result that keeps the St Mary’s club intact with the pack, and a result that was received well by their travelling supporters…
