Mauricio Pochettino’s Spurs were at their very best on Sunday as they managed to brush aside previously unbeaten table-toppers Manchester City in a thrilling game at White Hart Lane.
An own goal from Aleksandar Kolorov sent Spurs into the lead early on in the piece before Spurs doubled their lead later on in the first half with a low Dele Alli strike past Claudio Bravo. Erik Lamela had the chance to make it 3-0, but missed from the spot in the second period.
Spurs looked to press City from the start in the knowledge that playing out from the back is the Pep Guardiola way, particlulary looking to press Claudio Bravo in the Manchester City goal as he looked for a pass.
The high pressing helped Spurs to take all three points at White Hart Lane, as the team covered 118.8km throughout the ninety minutes, working tirelessly for the win.
One player that stood out for me as well as Spurs fans across Twitter was Victor Wanyama in the midfield, with many taking to Twitter to voice their opinions on Wanyama’s outstanding performance.
The Kenyan midfielder made some excellent tackles in the midfield on his way to earning the Sky Man Of The Match award on Sunday afternoon. He pressed the City midfield extremely well and his strength shone through in the 2-0 win.
Wanyama won six tackles as well as two aerial duels in his Man Of The Match performance, also racking up an 84% passing accuracy in Spurs’ fifth win of the season. The Kenyan also made one interception and recovered the ball nine times. Here is how fans reacted on Twitter to the midfielder’s performance.
Legitimately thought Wanyama would just be a squad player but the guy is incredible, how did he barely get any plaudits while at Saints?

All of them put their body on the line today. Rose phenomenal considering 6 games out. Wanyama superb. Hard to fault any. In fact you can’t.

Let’s face facts here. Is there any holding midfielder in the past 70 years better than victor wanyama? I don’t think so

Superb from Spurs. Every player delivered. Great intensity in the first half, pure resilience in the second. Wanyama activated beast mode.
