Manchester United have joined the race to sign AZ Alkmaar’s Vincent Janssen as the prolific forward looks set to leave the Netherlands this summer.
According to IB Times United have joined the race to sign the highly-rated striker and are hopeful on pipping Tottenham to his signature, despite previous reports suggesting that Spurs were set to sign the 22-year-old.
The Dutch forward had a prolific season in the Eredivisie. He moved to AZ in 2015 from Almere City and has gone on to score 27 goals in 34 appearances which is brilliant for the 22-year-old striker.
His form has caught the eye of the Netherlands boss and has earned himself five caps, Janssen has taken his impressive goal scoring form onto the international stage and has managed to score three goals.
The Red Devils have joined the race to sign the highly talented player and have made enquiries to his availability this summer. The young forward has already admitted he would like a move away this summer as he looks set to take the next step in his early career.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently leading the chase for the signature of Janssen with the North London club already meeting with the players representatives, but things could very well change if United come in for the player and use their financial dominance.
Jose Mourinho is desperate to shore up his attacking force this summer and wants to sign a striker. Zlatan Ibrahimovic is likely to be Mourinho’s second signing in charge of United with the Swedish international set for a medical after the Euros. United already have Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford who are both still very young players, but with the potential Janssen brings it would be hard for the United boss to turn down the opportunity to sign him.
We take a look at how Janssen compares with Rashford who lit up the League last season. Jannsen, who has been superb in the last season shows why he is so clinical scoring 0.89 goals per 90 minutes compared to Rashford who manages 0.53. Rashford has been superb for United and did not just score goals, he contributed to 0.21 assists which sees him come out on top of Janssen who managed just 0.13. Strikers have many aspects to their game to become great, chances created are a major factor. Janssen created 1.84 chances which once again sees him ahead of Rashford who managed just 0.63. Both players have been superb for their clubs and are very young players with limitless potential. Of course the differing difficulties of the leagues should be considered when comparing the two.
Tottenham are said to have already launched a £12million bid to bring the striker to White Hart Lane this summer but they are yet to agree terms with the player.
Although AZ deny a bid has been made for their prize asset, they have accepted defeat in trying to keep hold of the player, Manchester United look set to join the race and pip their Premier league rivals to his signature.
According to Sky Sports German club Wolfsburg have also joined the race to sign Janssen and are said to be the only club currently seriously pursuing their interest in the player.
Janssen will certainly be in demand this summer with the three interested clubs set to battle it out for his signature. West Ham United will also look at the option of signing Janssen if their intent to bring Alexandre Lacazette to Upton Park fails.
Manchester United will certainly feel confident if they are to enter a bidding war as they know playing at the “Theatre of Dreams” is hard for any player to turn down especially a young player looking to set a new league alight.
