The transfer window took another tasty twist on Wednesday night, as news broke of Manchester United tabling a £30million bid for Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos.
Madrid have reportedly grown frustrated of Ramos’ recent comments and may be willing to sell the Spaniard, especially if it helps United loosen their grip on David de Gea. With United now reportedly tabling an official bid, a deal could be on – and what a deal it would be!
The knock on affect of a transfer could see Madrid go for Arsenal’s Laurent Koscielny, with a £21million bid mooted for the 29 year old French defender. Arsenal no longer need to succumb to large bids from foreign clubs, and so they are likely to refuse any approach for one of their key players. Benitez is a huge fan though, and a bid of £30million and lucrative contract could tempt the player and club.
Even if Madrid manage to sign a replacement in Koscielny, they are unlikely to accept United’s £30million bid – I think they would hold out for a fee of at least £40million, or De Gea and £25million.
Here’s how Twitter is reacting to the latest on the transfer situation involving Sergio Ramos, David de Gea and Laurent Koscielny:
The more I think about Ramos the keener I get. Can play in three positions we should be looking for signings in… CB, RB and CDM.

Hand of Mendes in almost all the DeGea/Ramos/£/United/Madrid/Media stuff going on right now

If Ramos leaves, Otamendi is the man [@JorgeCalabres].

The Woodward on the left would've caved into to RM/DeGea by now.. Instead, the one on the right is bidding for Ramos. pic.twitter.com/uGZsFO0ZDu

If we signed Otamendi + Ramos, it doesn't really matter who plays in nets to be honest. Lindegaard could be our #1 with that partnership.

Madrid value Ramos at £46m but United believe £40m is too high for a 29-year-old. #mufc

France Football say Real 'continue to advance discreetly' in bid to sign Koscielny. Benitez wants to pair him with France colleague Varane

This is what I expect Wenger's reaction to Real Madrid's interest in Koscielny will be. pic.twitter.com/9Y0fXlIr7v

Koscielny ain't going anywhere. And £21m isn't enough anyway, considering David Luiz was sold for £50m!

But if we lose Koscielny then all our good transfer work will be undone. We cant have our best defender leave and expect to improve.
