Arsenal were comfortable 2-0 winners on Tuesday night as they hosted Reading in a League Cup tie. Arsene Wenger managed to leave most of the teams first team players completely out of the squad, allowing the fringe and young players a chance to impress in the eleven.
1 – Arsenal have 3 quality keepers
Whilst he wasn’t tested too much, Argentinean goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez put in a quality performance to show that Arsenal have three top keepers in their ranks. It’s his second game of the season and his second clean sheet. His highlight of the game will no doubt be his late free kick save where he managed to get down low and get a strong hand to the ball to deny the Reading attacker a goal that would have put the Gunners under pressure late on. With Ospina and Cech ahead of him, there doesn’t appear to be a long term future for Martinez at the club, but if he can continue to impress when he gets the chance, he might get a look in when Cech retires in the next 2 or 3 seasons – although there’s also the issue of Woijech Szczesny.
