Bayern looking to re-sign Mats Hummels after bust-up with Dortmund (Sky Sports)
Bayern look likely to raid Dortmund for the third time in recent years for one of their star players, this time captain Mats Hummels. The Bavarians have signed high-profile players Mario Gotze and Robert Lewandowski in recent years and would really rub salt into the Dortmund wound if they were to capture the signature of the Germany international.
Hummels reacted angrily to a statement the club released saying that he wanted a transfer in the summer to Bayern, despite having one year left on his current contract at the Westfalenstadtion. Hummels did seem to throw water on the rumors and give Dortmund fans hope that he might stay saying:
“I have no idea why they had to do it. Everything is possible and nothing is decided yet.”
Bayern are yet to make an offer for the player who started his career with them, expect this one to run throughout the summer.
Liverpool keen on swoop for Hoffenheim pair (Daily Star)
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on signing Hoffenheim pair Kevin Volland and Nicklas Sule. Hoffenheim have enjoyed a revival in recent months since the arrival of manager Julian Nagelsmann and avoided relegation which at one time looked very likely.
Volland and Sule have been key to this survival and the club will be worried that teams like Liverpool come calling for their top players. Last summer The Reds signed Roberto Firmino from Hoffenheim and the Brazilian has enjoyed an excellent first season at Anfield.
Volland is an exciting prospect scoring ten league goals this season and hopes to force his way into Joachim Low’s squad for the upcoming European Championships. Sule has expressed his intent to play in the Premier League saying:
“England is sometimes appealing because the physical style of play suits me.”
Klopp has already signed defender Joel Matip from Hoffenheim’s Bundesliga rivals Schalke.
Everton identify Mainz goalkeeper Karius as one to replace Howard (Liverpool Echo)
Everton have endured a testing season this campaign and are set to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League. Hardly the fairy tale ending to the nine-year career on Merseyside for goalkeeper Tim Howard. The 37-year old American international will leave the club for the Colorado Rapids in July and his replacement could be Loris Karius of Bundesliga outfit Mainz.
The 22-year old goalkeeper is a regular for the first team and has represented Germany at Under-21 level. Karius is one of a large crop of talented German goalkeepers and has attracted the interest of Everton and cross-city rivals Liverpool.
Karius has been in fine form for Mainz this season who are currently fifth in the Bundesliga and are in a great position to make the Europa league qualification for next year. He has appeared in 33 games and kept ten clean sheets in all competitions.
