Crystal Palace are one of many Premier League side’s undergoing a major transition this summer and Dutch boss Frank De Boer is eager to make his mark with the Eagles, as he seeks the signature of an England U21 ace.
The Telegraph states the South London side are closing in on the signature of Chelsea midfielder Rubens Loftus-Cheek on a season-long loan deal, which would see the England U21 regular become De Boer’s first signing at Selhurst Park.
The 21-year-old has been a rare prodigy at Chelsea, standing as one of few young players who have remained in West London rather than going on-loan elsewhere but the opportunities having been forthcoming regularly for Loftus-Cheek.
Since making his debut in 2014, Loftus-Cheek has earned 22 Premier League appearances which, remarkably, is just five more than he’s made for England at U21 level- a stat which proves he’s been crying out for a loan move for a while.
What can Loftus-Cheek provide?
With Chelsea rebuffing the opportunity of sending Loftus-Cheek on-loan previously, it’s clear the Blues value the England ace highly and believe he can be a useful asset. However, he’s unlikely to make a breakthrough fully until he impresses elsewhere.
First-team football at Crystal Palace could bring the best out of Loftus-Cheek, helping Crystal Palace in their strive for improvements on the field and providing a deal that could be great for all parties- as Loftus-Cheek would get the opportunities he needs, the Eagles would get a solid addition and Chelsea would see a young asset develop in the Premier League.
His experience at U21 level for England should leave him ready to make a lasting impression in the Premier League and he could become a crucial asset for the Eagles next season, providing he settles into the challenges he’ll face swiftly.
