Liverpool were left in a spot of bother yesterday after a 3-0 defeat against arch-rivals Manchester United left them 10th in the table and 18 points off top-spot.
Naturally, the Reds fans found something to complain about but they do have a point- as Juan Mata was offside for United’s second goal, which turned the tide of the game. Robin Van Persie’s slight touch on the cross was missed by the linesman, much to the fury of the Liverpool faithful.
What made matters worse for the Anfield supporters was the fact that Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville completed ignored the fact the Spanish midfielder was offside in his analysis, until it was pointed out to him- and even Van Persie himself admitted he touched the ball, claiming he deserves an assist!
Ref & assistant made horrific call on ManU 2nd goal? Mata in offside position after Van Persie head flicked ball?NFL red flag appeal needed?

Wait so Van Persie has been given the assist, meaning that he nodded it on, meaning it was offside. So wtf is going on

everyone kicking off about offside? why not kick off about Van persie flicking on freely in our box with no challenge?

Someone needs to explain the offside rule to Sky Sports. It’s not a case of “just” or “slightly” you either are or you’re not. Mata is off.

Gary Neville totally neglecting to mention Mata was offside until picked up on it! Nice and impartial there.

Only the three yards offside from Mata there. Still, Moreno should have been doing more than just watching him.
