Half way through the January transfer window and Manchester United have added to their squad by bringing in Spanish international Goalkeeper, Victor Valdes, 33, on a free transfer having left Spanish Giants Barcalona.
But the real talk of late in the gossip columns are of the current United stopper David De Gea, and an audacious swoop whatever way you look at from Real Madrid, involving Gareth Bale moving in the opposite direction and many millions of pounds/euros involved.
The question is though, would it be a good move if such a rumour actually materialised? Now Gareth Bale is no doubt a top footballer, and just as significantly, he is a ‘Galactico’, playing at the top club in the world right now. But would the arrival of a player of such quality be worth if it meant United would lose arguably the best goalkeeper in the Premiership?
De Gea is still very young for a goalkeeper at 23, and as things stand, he is destined to be a world class footballer for probably quite a while.
If United were to sell, it would definitely be some achievement by the club to replace him with a player of similar quality with the same longevity.
Would be a risky move… although a Gareth Bale may go some way in softening the blow.
I would absolutely be shocked and confused if Man United let De Gea go in order for a chance to sign Gareth Bale. Don’t get it.

If Van Gaal trades De Gea for Bale it will be the dumbest decision of his career. We definitely need a great keeper than a good winger #ManU

1) I don’t understand how this De Gea – Bale deal makes sense. It seems that RMAD don’t know what to do with Bale and want to get €100M back

@mperezidente @Macklin100 de gea has been the saving grace for our generally piss poor defending. Can’t lose him even for Bale

if United try to swap De Gea for Bale I might just become a rugby fan

Ridiculous. Gareth Bale is brilliant, yes, but with Man U’s defence, we need De Gea more.

@FootballFunnys if they trade de gea for bale I will burn my man u gear. The back 4 is like swiss cheese. Spend some money on defenders!

@J8rdz_VE Even if it’s a swap for Bale, De Gea is easily more needed atm

If De Gea stays, we keep the best keeper in the league, if he goes, we get Bale, win win situation really

I think if we swap David de Gea for Gareth Bale I would be really disappointed. We really don’t need Bale that much. #mufc #DeGea #Bale

And with all due respect to the man, Gareth Bale simple won’t contribute for United what De Gea is contributing now. #ManUtd

@ElevationFPS most everything ive seen has us essentially trading De Gea for Bale and some money. honestly i wouldnt hate that
