Jose Mourinho’s start to life in Manchester hasn’t gone exactly to plan. The Red Devils are already eleven points below Premier League pace-setters Chelsea, who extended their winning streak with a 2-1 home win over Tottenham on Saturday.
Mouinho’s men sit in sixth place in the top flight, and the Portuguese coach could be looking to plan a massive squad overhaul in January and the proceeding transfer windows, some players leaving, and some coming in. Here are ten players that could leave Old Trafford in the New Year according to Manchester Evening News.
1) Bastian Schweinsteiger
The midfielder has struggled for first team minutes, and has virtually been frozen out of the Jose Mourinho setup since he arrived at Old Trafford. The World Cup winner has become extremely frustrated with his treatment this season, and could seek a move away from England.
Schweinsteiger did however return to the squad in the Premier League 1-1 draw with West Ham on Sunday. Sky also say that he could in fact start in the same fixture but in the league cup tonight. Chicago fire are reportedly interested in his services, and could make the move there over the January window.
2) Memphis Depay
The £26m signing has failed to make a big impact since his arrival at Old Trafford, and that can mostly be put down to the lack of first-team minutes, particularly this season. He has appeared just four times for the Red Devils in the Premier League this term, not creating a single chance, but he has just played 42 minutes.
Depay has not been the preferred choice in the Europa League, playing just 65 minutes in that competition this season. There are still a few clubs that would quite happily make use of the services and talent of Depay, and United might look to cash-in.
