Arsenal

David Ospina: 6 – Really had nothing to do at all, bar claiming from crosses and one decent save.

Hector Bellerin: 7 – Bellerin is brimming with confidence at the moment and for the most part did everything well, I would note though that he must be careful not to overplay when it is not needed.

Shkodran Mustafi: 8 – Looked effortless and settled in this Arsenal defence, whilst also being so effective. He is clearly the defender Arsenal look to to distribute the ball and boss possession – he looks comfortable with that responsibility.

Laurent Koscielny: 7.5 – Really didn’t have much to do at all but when he and Mustafi were required, they shut out the opposition with confidence.

Nacho Monreal: 7 – The Spaniard didn’t have much to do on Wednesday night, but performed pretty well and got forward to offer a good attacking outlet. Not sure if he had an injury but came off with 15 minutes to go to allow Gibbs some game time.

Granit Xhaka: 7 – Replaced an in form but injured Coquelin and although he didn’t have much to do defensively, he once again impressed with his passing range, unlucky not to get an assist. Worth noting his aerial presence is also helpful from set pieces, as with playing Alexis over Giroud, Arsenal aren’t the biggest side. Did give away the ball with his short passing more than he would’ve liked.

Santi Cazorla: 6.5 – In a fluent Arsenal display in general, Cazorla really didn’t appear to be at his best. He misplaced passes that you would usually never expect from the Spaniard.

Alex Iwobi: 7.5 – At 20 years old, with so little Champions League experience and with £40million signings like Alexis and Ozil excelling, you’d expect the Nigerian to stick out, but no, he looks every bit on their level. He’s made the left wing spot his own and excels both in possession and defensively offers protection. Went close with a toe poke in the second half. Rested with 20 mins to go.

Mesut Ozil: 7 – Linked the Arsenal attack together as usual, although he would have been disappointed not to have scored in the first half after having two openings.

Theo Walcott: 8.5 – Continued his much improved form this season by heading Arsenal into the lead just 7 minutes in – 20 minutes later he had scored again, after exchanging passes with Alexis once more and this time calmly striking across goal into the far post. Was rested with 20 minutes to go.

Alexis Sanchez: 8 – After impressing up top at the weekend and with Giroud still out, the Chilean got the nod up top again and within 7 minutes he had made a good run and assisted a goal for Theo. For the second goal he again showed his interplay capabilities, assisting Theo again with a well-timed through ball. His pressure from the front approach caused all kinds of problems for Basel, forcing errors. Visibly gutted he didn’t score on the night, but went close and was incredibly creative.

Subs

Mohammed Elneny: N/A – On for Iwobi with 20 to go to help Arsenal keep control of the game. He played alongside Xhaka, allowing Cazorla to move further up the field.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain: N/A – On for the impressive Walcott with 20 minutes to go. Should have scored or at least assisted after rounding the keeper late on.

Kieran Gibbs: N/A – Came on for the last 15 minutes, did his defensive duties well to help see out the game and get the points.
