Arsenal are weighing up a summer move for Albanian ace Elseid Hysaj. The £15 million rated right back has been hugely impressive in previous seasons and Arsene Wenger will certainly be keeping an eye on the 22-year-old as he represents Albania at the Euros.
Hysaj has been hugely impressive in recent seasons and most noticeably in the last 12 months for Napoli after taking the Serie A by storm.
Hysaj was involved in his country’s opening match at Euro 2016 after narrowly losing 1-0 to Switzerland but his side definitely deserved to at least a point from the game after impressive spells.
Hysaj is one of Europe’s brightest young defenders and Napoli know it will be tough to keep hold of their prized asset when European giants come calling.
According to the Daily Star Arsenal are desperate to bolster their options in both full back positions and believe they could kill “kill two birds with one stone” signing Hysaj as the versatile defender can just as easily slot in at left back.
Although Arsenal already arguably have the brightest young right back in Europe in Hector Bellerin, Arsene Wenger is keen to give him solid competition with the likelihood of Mathieu Debuchy leaving the club after falling behind Bellerin and being left fed up and Calum Chambers long term future seen in central defence.
How does Hysaj compare to the Gunners current first choice right-back Hector Bellerin? The 21-year old has been outstanding for Arsenal in the last two seasons and his explicit form has paid off after being called up to the Spain side for the Euros. Hysaj, who has been very impressive this season for Napoli managed 1.89 tackles per 90 minutes which is very pleasing on the eye for interested clubs. Bellerin managed 1.31 which is once again impressive. Aerial duels is a key asset for a defender and Bellerin comes out on top for aerial duels won after managing 1.06 which is just ahead of Hysaj who scores 1.01. Another key asset to being a great defender is interceptions, it helps your team regain possession and can cut out a key pass. Once again Bellerin proves why he is one of Europe’s best young defenders after managing 1.86 interceptions which is more impressive of Hysaj’s score of 1.10. Both defenders have impressed immensely this season and this proves with how both defenders score with total duels. Both players impress but Bellerin is just superior of Hysaj after managing 54.17% of total duels whereas Hysaj managed 53.52% leaving him just behind. In today’s game, defenders are urged to get the ball forward as quickly as possible. It helps build up a counter attack and relieves pressure on the defence. Hysaj managed 31.20 forward passes compared to Bellerin’s 24.06.
Hysaj signed for Napoli from Empoli in 2015 for just £5 million and his impressive performances could see the club land a profit of £10 million in just one season. Hysaj has gone on to play 35 times in Serie A. Hysaj has also represented Albania 17 times.
Ironically, Barcelona are not just keen on Hector Bellerin, the Catalan giants are also keeping tabs on Hysaj as they look to replace Dani Alves after he left the Spanish side for Juventus.
Arsenal will have a fight to land Hysaj with Chelsea and Manchester United are also reportedly monitoring the full back, but with the Gunners having Champions League football next season leaves them in poll position if they are to pursue their interest.
