Newcastle could be about to sign a player who played for Real Madrid last season. Yes really. Arbeloa is now out of contract and Rafa Benitez is a known admirer of the Spaniard having worked with him in Liverpool and at Madrid. According to The Northern Echo, the player is considering Newcastle’s approach and it is very possible he could accept it. The defender likes England and has a good relationship with Benitez. Arbeloa is only 33 and that is not too old to play in the Championship. His relationship with Benitez could bring out the best in him once again. Like Castro, he can play at left or right back, and it could be a case of Castro or Arbeloa, although there is also potentially room for both players in the squad, especially if Janmaat leaves the club. Arbeloa has tonnes of experience. He’s played over 150 games for Real Madrid and has notched up an impressive 59 caps for Spain – you don’t get that by luck. Admittedly he is at the tail end of his career but he would still be a very useful addition for Newcastle to have in the Championship.
