Tottenham have had one of their best seasons for years this season and were unfortunate not to pip Arsenal to second and finish above them for the first time in 20 years. With the breakthrough of Delli Ali and Eric Dier and the continued form of Harry Kane Tottenham really pushed Leicester for the League title right up until the last few weeks. After failing to beat West Brom at home then losing to Southampton it was all but over. The mental strength of the players will be questioned as they blew a 2-0 lead at Stamford bridge that ended the faint title hunt. They were battered 5-1 on the last day of the season by a relegated Newcastle and St Totteringham’s Day was confirmed again to the delight of the Gunners. They once again have no bragging rights on North London although they had a excellent season which saw them qualify for the automatic Champions League places. We look at three players that could take Spurs one step further.
1 – Franco Vazquez
Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Franco Vazquez from Palermo as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of next season with the Champions League returning to White Hart Lane.
Spurs will look to add quality additions to their squad this summer and according to the Daily Mirror sources close to the Italy International have admitted Spurs are trying to lure him away from Serie A.
Vazquez has once again had an impressive season for Palermo but the club have once again ended the season outside the European places and this has played a major role in Vasquez’s future. He has decided he wants to move away to a club who can offer him playing in the biggest competitions in European football.
Vazquez isn’t the quickest of attackers; this is partly due to his limited agility of his 6 foot 2 build. Vazquez is a magician with the ball at his feet with dribbling remaining his prominent asset. Vision is in high demand of his game and his passing ability and technique cannot be missed. Vazquez is quick, talented and a mobile left – footed player. He is able to help his team score goals with his pristine striking ability from distance. Vazquez is also very versatile; he is usually deployed as an attacking midfielder but has also been played in several other positions: Vazquez has been used as a deep-lying playmaker and as a second forward. His playing style is of high order, and his explicit abilities have drawn comparisons with Javier Pastore and Alessandro Del Piero. At 27 years-old Vazquez has only been given two international caps for Italy scoring zero goals. The biggest clubs in Italy are all interested in Vazquez including Napoli, Lazio and Roma but according to reports Spurs could pip all interested clubs to the signature of Vazquez by offering a much higher financial package which the other clubs are unable to match.
