2 – Christian Benteke
After failing with an opening bid for Lacazette, West Ham United will reportedly look into the availability of Liverpool striker Christian Benteke.
Although Lacazette remains the Hammers main target, Benteke could be a cheaper alternative and still add quality to their front line.
The striker who moved to Liverpool last summer for a staggering £32.5 million has really struggled to make an impact. Jurgen Klopp has since come in and promoted David Origi to the first team more often and it looks like Benteke will be allowed to leave this summer for a cut-price of what they paid for him.
According to The Sun West Ham are hopeful of getting Benteke on a loan move, But Benteke’s wages of more than £120,000 could cause the deal to stall. The Hammers would prefer to lower Benteke’s wages but guarantee him playing time.
Benteke has not hit the heights Liverpool were hoping, for the price they paid he did little to repay the faith but it is not surprising West Ham are looking at the striker. In a bad season for Benteke, he still managed 0.53 goals per 90 minutes which is better than current striker Sakho (0.30). Benteke has also impressed with the amount of chances he has created with a very positive score 1.77. Sakho, who has also impressed in spells this season has created 0.83 which is once again below Benteke. After an off season, Benteke hasn’t done bad – he gets a full house in attack score with 26.84 which is a lot better than Sakho’s score of 13.18.
Diafra Sakho’s future is still in doubt after throwing a strop at being left out of the starting line-up against Arsenal so West Ham will certainly look to replace him.
