Twitter went into overdrive on Saturday afternoon as Liverpool’s late winner in front of the Kop came from an extremely unlikely source, as defender Glen Johnson bundled home the goal that gave the Reds a 1-0 victory over Stoke.
Johnson has had plenty of abuse from Liverpool and England fans this season, with his international career looking likely to be over and the Reds preparing to ship him out. However, he still did the business next weekend as he literally threw his neck on the line to score the only goal of the game, injuring himself in the process.
Twitter was full of jokes aimed at Johnson but it was he who got the last laugh, and Liverpool the three points.
If you’d have put an accumulator on Joe Cole, Glen Johnson & Chris Smalling to score first you would have got around 7820-1 (Via @BetBright)

Credit where it’s due to Glen Johnson. He stuck his head on the line, literally. #LFC

Three points, a clean sheet and a late Glen Johnson winner. Have I had an afternoon on acid? #LFC

One man tried to back Joe Cole, Chris Smalling and Glen Johnson all to score today. He’s happier now in his mental asylum.

Glen Johnson has taken a lot of stick this season but that was a very brave header. Got absolutely clattered and still down having treatment
