Things haven’t been going to plan so far for Slaven Bilic and West Ham United this season. They crashed out of Europe at the first hurdle (again) and are languishing in the bottom half the Premier League. Despite making several additions in the summer, it just hasn’t worked out. The Hammers need reinforcements in January, but they need to be the right ones. I take a look at three signings I feel would be suitable.
1 - Jermaine Defoe
A lot of the experimental signings West Ham have made from outside the Premier League have not worked out. That, and the fact that the next transfer window is in January, the middle of the season, shows that Bilic should not take risks and invest in some proven Premier League players. Few come more Premier League proven than Jermaine Defoe. His previous with Tottenham may irk a few fans, but the fact is he would greatly improve West Ham’s attacking options – even if he is just used as a sub. He wouldn’t cost a lot of money and with Sunderland (even at this stage) looking certain to go down, Defoe would surely jump at the chance to play for a club like West Ham.
