Reports: Three Players Everton Are In Talks To Sign This Summer

Another season comes to an end for Everton with nothing to show for it. They have once again under-achieved and will seriously look to strengthen their lacklustre squad this summer. The highlight of their season was the FA cup semi-finals where they narrowly lost to Manchester United. They have been atrocious in the league and with the squad they have should be challenging for the top six. Roberto Martinez paid the price for their poor season and was sacked just a few weeks ago, a new manager will come in and want to invest in quite a few players to get the club back to where they belong. We take a look at three players they could sign this summer.

1 - Djibril Sidibé

According to reports in France, Everton will make a move for highly rated left back Djibril Sidibé this summer. The Toffees will look to improve their defence this season after conceding 55 league goals which is not good enough, Sidibé who can also play at right back, is seen as a prime target.

Everton have reportedly made an approach to Lille for the right back, with a fee thought to be €13m but have not yet made a formal bid.

Unfortunately for Everton, the Ligue 1 club rebuffed their approach and will not open negotiations before €15m is mentioned as a minimum bid.

Everton will be very impressed with the versatility of Sidibé, a natural right-back, spent all of last season playing down the left for Lille as they lacked personnel in that position which show’s he is comfortable where he is asked to play. Sidibé has a very good long shot considering he is a defender, he has scored 7 goals in 96 games for Lille and often tests keeper with his range of shooting. His attacking ability is also sublime, he often plays as a full back but likes to help the attack, his crossing and dribbling is a real strength of his whilst keeping hold on to the ball is an issue which he has struggled with. Although he is good offensively one of his main attributes is his defensive contribution his capability to tackle and show ‘no nonsense’ defending doesn’t go unnoticed and this has clearly caught the eyes of interested clubs.

La Voix du Nord, a local paper in France who are reporting this story expect Everton to return with the improved offer but will face stiff competition from Arsenal who are looking for backup to Hector Bellerin and perhaps left-back cover should Kieran Gibbs leave.
